KindleGen is Amazon official console program for converting e-book formats from HTML, XHTML or EPUB to KF8 or MOBI compatible formats that work on their Kindle readers. It is quick and effective; however due to requiring text-based operation and parameterization functions for functions it may only suit experienced users; otherwise we suggest another alternative program (please refer to “Note” section below for advice).
Simply double-clicking its icon is not enough – instead you must launch the console in the location of the downloaded application, point to its EXE file to run and point back at it (simply run this command in its folder using Shift+Right mouse button). When it begins running, an online short manual with basic instructions for how to create commands and use parameters will appear – this should suffice unless the program is intended solely for complete beginners or experts alike.
Noteworthy is the program’s multilingual support (though unfortunately not Polish). If we use any language other than English on the supported list, we can change it directly in the command line after starting up the app. Furthermore, each downloaded package also contains license terms in many different languages.
Note!
- Once unpacking of an archive file has taken place, no further installation process is required for running the program.
- Our database also features an EPUB to MOBI application that may serve as an unofficial graphic overlay for the KindleGen described above.
