JabRef for windows latest version is an open-source program that serves as a bibliographic reference manager. It natively utilizes BibTeX format – the standard format for bibliographies created with LaTeX – while also supporting BibLaTeX format and offering numerous LaTeX/BibTeX/BibLaTeX styles to format bibliographies created in JabRef with. JabRef runs in Java virtual machine mode with versions suitable for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux systems running various versions available – plus there is also JAR file available so users can create reference lists that meet all bibliographic standards!
JabRef offers three key capabilities:
- Searching and downloading information about BibTeX entries from external databases – such as arXiv, CiteseerX, Google Scholar, Medline and Medline/GVK/IEXplore/Springer databases (which support these functions) are supported).
- Full text of any work, book or article related to a given bibliographic reference can be automatically searched online before being downloaded and linked back into its appropriate BibTeX entry.
- Advanced data search in the bibliography.
- Great possibilities exist for categorizing entries based on keywords or attributes; group entries accordingly.
- Various functions for creating and editing BibTeX fields
- Integration with external programs – documents can be opened directly in web browsers and PDF viewers; references entered include TeXstudio, LyX, Kile, LatexEditor Emacs Vim WinEdt
- Automatic and configurable generation of BibTeX keys from data contained in documents (for example author name/surname information; title/year of publication of work/book);
- Support for XMP metadata available in PDF files
- Import data from various formats including RIS, Medline/Pubmed (xml), Refer/Endnote, INSPEC, BibTeXML, CSA and ISI Web of Science to import SilverPlatter SciFinder SilverPlatter Scifinder OVID Biblioscape Sixpack JStor RIS
- Data Export of HTML, Docbook, BibTeXML, MODS RTF Refer/Endnote OpenOffice and LibreOffice documents is supported.
JabRef download for pc features a highly configurable and user-friendly graphical user interface, making the program accessible and straightforward for almost anyone to use. However, its value lies mostly with users with extensive knowledge about creating professional bibliographies – you will find detailed instructions in both help file and online documentation; although Polish users won’t be able to take advantage of all those tips in there somewhere online!
